Portrait Photographer

Portrait photographers take pictures of individuals or groups and usually work in their own studios or on location at a school or business. Their photographs can be artistic or clinical, aiming to capture personality through lighting, backdrops, and poses.

Commercial Photographer

Commercial photography, or advertising photography, is used to promote and market products or services. Commercial photographers take pictures of products or subjects for a variety of commercial purposes. For commercial shoots, the photographer works within brand guidelines and an approved shot list.

Event Photographer

An events photographer specialises in taking pictures for important or specific gatherings such as parties, shows, events, and weddings. They must assist with the event setup and provide excellent customer service to ensure that things will run smoothly before, during, and after the event.

Photo Journalist

Similar to a writer, a photojournalist is a reporter, but they must often make decisions instantly and carry photographic equipment. They are often exposed to obstacles such as danger, bad weather, large crowds, and limited physical access to their subjects. A Photo Journalist uses images to tell a news story – this typically refers to still images, but can include video used in broadcast journalism.
